American Girl®

During the spring of 2014 I was asked by the toy giant American Girl along with Alicia Rheal from Rheal Imagination to paint some backdrops for photoshoots for their Christmas catalog. 

Process 

One of the unique aspects to this project is that we painted on the floor.  Alicia's background is in theater painting, and the approach that theater painters take was a learning experience for me.  We stapled the canvas to Homasote and stood on it, holding brushes attached to bamboo poles, using watered down house paint.  A woodworker worked with us as well, incorporating a windowsill and fireplace into the set.

The canvases were rolled up and photographed as a backdrop for their products.  Below are some of the pages, and the cover, from the Christmas catalog.
